Tears for Fears Tour 2022

As of the 15th of July, the remainder of the tour is cancelled. The September show however is still on…

*Curt has sadly hurt his rib, he is injured. We’ve learned it is impossible for him to sing in this very painful condition. We pray he can breathe better and take the time to heal. Due to this injury, several shows in the UK were cancelled and refunds are being issued. We continue to lean on the information from Alison Moyet, the venues (and the band when they are able to post). We as a fan team are beyond worried for them and wish them the very best as well as a full recovery for Curt so he can get on with this life. How sad to be paused like that. We can’t wait to see him in good spirits and dancing around again. Please see the shows with an asterisk that have been cancelled.

Featured Event: Tears for Fears at The Lytham Festival

(Alison Moyet and Natalie Imbruglia took care of this show on behalf of the band. It was amazing! See Alison’s social pages for video and more).

This festival now has a part II that includes a day for Tears for Fears. We are happy to note that our dear Alison Moyet is going to join them as an opener as will Natalie Imbruglia known for her song ‘Torn’ which is such a perfect “festival” song. Go ahead and envision yourself sipping Mimosas with that song being played. But can we take a moment and also say how excited we are about Alison Moyet being with the band again? Can this just be forever? Alison Moyet with TFF as much as possible please! We definitely want to her to be at the elusive fan conference alongside Michael Wainwright, Michael Magno and other amazing artists. But we digress, let’s stay focused on this event.

Date: Saturday, 9 July, 2022
Location: Lytham Festival in Lancashire
Hotel Suggestion: Hy Hotel on Clifton Street

For those that have issues getting around you may want to spend a little more and get the garden pass so you can sit down and not stand the whole day. Have a look at this video to understand the space and see the scan of the area.

What to know about this show…why is it special? It’s in an absolutely beautiful place. Try not to want to up and move there once you arrive. It’s near the sea! The sea! Those of us residing in landlocked areas rejoice! The breezy air and enjoyable environment alongside their new music and presence will make this one of those really nice memorable shows. It’s on motherland turf for the band in many ways. Family and friends will be there. Get your tickets and prepare for an excellent weekend!

Tour 2022 Dates & Tickets – Announced on Friday 12 November, 2022

Logistics: (if you don’t care about saving money, getting insurance and have no Covid questions, skip to the tour dates below)
Prepare to attend shows prior to and after the festival as well as enjoying the new music from the upcoming album The Tipping Point (get your merch now on the site). You are also encouraged to wear Libre Stone and or Tears for Fears merch at the shows in order to be identifiable by other fans. The band has noted that with our subscription we can get the artist’s presale ticket options so we hope everyone has taken care of their signing up. Otherwise you can use the other option or buy the tickets on Friday the 19th of November. You can access the direct ticket sales through the site, so we’re not going to list that information this time because the band has already provided it on the official site. Below are the links to each place plus hotel and flight suggestions. We will likely meet up at each place and travel together.

Dose of Reality – we hope we can erase this part of the update in the next 3 months. However, let’s talk about Covid. Due to its highly contagious nature, it’s likely the band is not doing a meet and greet. So if you’re attending shows with the sole purpose of some band time…let’s be real. Go for the music alone and the opportunity to celebrate the band with fellow fans. Do not even bother asking us if we’re going backstage. We’re not asking nor expecting any opportunities like that. (Please note that the UK has lifted their Covid restrictions as of February 2022. The band’s management arranged a number of appearances by the band including a Q&A where fans were able to take photos and speak to Roland and Curt without restrictions. It was quite nice. We don’t imagine anything like that happening in the United States.)

The shot… some of us can tolerate it and others can’t due to allergies. For those that can’t handle it, please, buy 3 take home tests. Use one in advance to make sure you can get your results with ease or you can take a test at some of the venues if you schedule your test in advance with the venue. If you’re following the whole tour and need continued Covid testing, let Andye know. She is working to ensure all fans have as much info as possible so they don’t get to a show and get turned away due to lack of required documents.

Post-Surgery – if you’ve had a hip replacement, are on a cane or dealing with chronic fatigue syndrome and are worried you’ll have issues getting to your set, arriving, etc. contact Andye so she can work with you to help you get in touch with the accessible service. We’re not spring chickens anymore and we can’t walk a football field to the parking lot and back.

Flights – we’re going to suggest going with Delta for all travel during the US leg of the tour due to their Covid policy which seems to accommodate all the various conditions one might be in during these questionable times. They also offer credit for flights if things go wrong. The link we provided is directly to the Sky Miles program. You need to save yourself some money and collect points. They come in handy when you least expect it. You’ll have options to use the sky lounge and relax between long layovers. You’ll pay less for flights by adding your points and using upgrades.

Get the Insurance – remember when the band had family illnesses? Remember when certain festivals cancelled? Remember Covid? Oh wait, Covid is still here. Yeah, get the insurance. You never know if you’ll need to call the airline and say, “I need a refund because…” It’s about $10 extra dollars but you’ll feel safer and be less upset if this sickness causes us any other issues. We can only hope none of us, nor the band gets sick. Insurance (ticket and flight) will save you a lot of money in the long run. Expect to pay about $1000 total if you attend every single show and get the insurance on flight and tickets. Not a bad deal given you’ll get back the $5,000+ you’re spending on flights and tickets.

MAY 20, 2022

RIVERBEND MUSIC CENTER seating chart

CINCINNATI, OH

Hotel (You can stay at the venue’s suggestion on the Kentucky side or you can opt for accommodations further out – this seems to be the best for the money and the location. We’ve tried this brand and it was actually very comfortable, clean and neat).

MAY 21, 2022

BLOSSOM MUSIC CENTER seating chart (at the time we did research on this location, we noticed their site was not up to date)

CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH

Hotel Country Inn and Suites is owned by the Radisson. This specific location is closest to the venue. We’ve also tried this brand and it was very nice and well maintained.

MAY 24, 2022

THE PAVILION AT TOYOTA MUSIC FACTORY (this venue is offering Covid testing on site, you’ll also be expected to carry a clear plastic PVC bag vs. a purse. The reason they want it clear is to keep from having to touch the items of guest.)

IRVING, TX

Hotel – this is the Marriott that is closest to the venue. *You’re going to want to stay at this location – take our word for it!

May 25th, 2022

** this show was announced the week of 17 Jan. TFF in Houston, Texas. Tickets are on sale on the Tears for Fears site in the tour section. Location: Smart Financial Centre at Sugarland.

MAY 27, 2022

AK-CHIN PAVILION (We noticed this site is already selling tickets before the actual presale of the band – but through a marketplace or third party – you may want to go straight to the Tears for Fears website vs. relying on this site if you’re looking for early options. We’ve gone that route before but only at the last minute to accommodate additional travel fans. Not ideal.)

PHOENIX, AZ

Hotel – This is the Hilton and it’s in the same area as that the venue. It’s in a gorgeous location so if you can take advantage of the break between the Texas and AZ shows, explore the area. Tears for Fears Superfan Lael should be available to assist you.

MAY 29, 2022

LEVITT PAVILION (This looks like a very festival type atmosphere with a huge lawn and open air, no cover. It has a beer garden and lots of food. Might be fun for a family outing and enjoying the show. Gorgeous area and surroundings!)

DENVER, CO

Hotel – This hotel is the closest we could find. It’s a Courtyard by Marriott and again, one we’ve tried in the past. It was very convenient.

JUN 1, 2022

CONCORD PAVILION (we couldn’t find any safe sites and info for this show just yet – wild!)

CONCORD, CA

Hotel – This is a Crown Plaza Hotel. We found cheaper and closer ones but they didn’t have great reviews. The last thing you want after a great show is go back to an uncomfortable hotel. We don’t play that in the Tears for Fears Travel Fan world. This hotel is about 5 miles from the venue. .

JUN 2, 2022

SHORELINE AMPHITHEATRE – this venue is all about the premium experience. You may want to sign up in advance and see what perks are available for VIP seating experiences.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA

Hotel – this hotel is in the heart of Silicon Valley and it is gorgeous. Right there near the venue. Very comfortable and extremely convenient!

JUN 4, 2022

THE FORUM – The band has played here before. In a recent intereview, Roland noted that they’d be playing the Hollywood Bowl. We think he meant The Forum. Those of us who bought season passes to the Hollywood Bowl… smh.

INGLEWOOD, CA

Hotel (Guys, it’s L.A. – we have so many favourites it’s impossible to list them all – if you’re looking to stay near the venue, then go with the linked suggestion – but we’re likely gonna take a few days at one of our favourites be it Loews Santa Monica or “elsewhere.”)

JUN 5, 2022

NORTH ISLAND CREDIT UNION AMPHITHEATRE

CHULA VISTA, CA

Hotel – this is a Best Western near the venue. We’ll likely change this.

JUN 9, 2022

ITHINK FINANCIAL AMPHITHEATRE

WEST PALM BEACH, FL

Hotel – this is a Hampton Inn not far from the venue. The whole area is gorgeous, be sure to read all reviews and remember this is also the city of SunFest where the rain and “hot” stage caused cancellations of the show. Get the insurance for this show due to the weird weather which causes havoc.

JUN 10, 2022

MIDFLORIDA CREDIT UNION AMPHITHEATRE

TAMPA, FL

Hotel – something a little swank for us!

JUN 12, 2022

AMERIS BANK AMPHITHEATRE – if you get in early for this show, be sure to check out the Avalon. It’s an eatery and lovely shopping area with a movie theatre and great food. This is Andye’s neighbourhood. If you have any questions, reach out to her on Twitter @andyeisthenews. If you’re looking to enjoy any tourist attractions – remember that Atlanta traffic is famous for a reason. Downtown is about a 30 min drive from this location on the weekends. You’ll want to arrive early if you’re not staying near the venue.

ALPHARETTA, GA (this is an Atlanta suburb)

Hotel

JUN 13, 2022

PNC MUSIC PAVILION – the Charlotte show is about 4 hours from the Atlanta location. Be ready to wake up early and get there to avoid any issues because it’s a Monday and you might encounter traffic.

CHARLOTTE, NC

Hotel

JUN 15, 2022

DTE ENERGY MUSIC THEATRE CARKSTON

JUN 21, 2022

MANN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

JUN 22, 2022

LEADER BANK PAVILION – this venue is in such a beautiful place. Boston is a gorgeous city. Lots of fans there including Deborah G. We hope to be able to do a small reunion there as we did in 2017 after the tour.

BOSTON, MA

Hotel – the Hyatt Regency in this location is just gorgeous!

JUN 24, 2022

PNC BANK ARTS CENTER

JUL 2, 2022

LONGLEAT

WILTSHIRE, UK

Hotel

Transport – TBD – this place is a wildlife sanctuary and offers transportation for tourist purposes. It’s best to call them yourself and let them know your plans so they can decide what is best for you. There is a train station not too far away but you know us, we prefer you’re safe and sound in a car that can pick you up and drop you off at the gate. Enjoy this video of the property to get an idea of what it’s like to visit. Maybe stay an extra day as you’ll have time between shows.

July 5th, 2022

Tears for Fears announced this show in February after literally tweeting out to fans and followers the question, “where in London would you like to see us?” Fans responded as did Royal Albert Hall. The final location was the O2 Shepard’s Bush Empire. Tickets went on sale the 23rd with a pre-sale code given by the band/management. General sale was 25th of February, the day of The Tipping Point’s release.

JUL 7, 2022

UTILITA ARENA

Hotel

Transport – this is Blacklane, an awesome private transport service that offers a variety of ways to get around the area. We’ve used this in past travel and it was awesome to say the least!!

Band contributor, Phil Collins the great, was recently at Utilita. Adam of TFF Atlanta got to see him the other night. Check out this video of Genesis performing together at the venue. See what your experience may be when you arrive for Tears for Fears.

You need a car service to come and get you and take you back to the hotel/BB so you can get a good night’s rest especially if you’re going to the show the night before)

Quarterly Update – Tears for Fears Travel Fans (Q3)

Big thanks to those who participated in the online birthday fun for Roland Orzabal. Penny Dahl won the day with another amazing display that gave a salute not just to the man, but to the Seeds of Love album. She won an Amazon gift card and a copy of the Tears for Fears Massey Hall Vinyl. We learned after the fact that Roland had a lovely cake along with other niceties for his special day. Many thanks to his dear Emily for sharing the photos.

Penny is a member of the Tears for Fears Fan Forum

So, what are Roland and Curt doing right now? Well, unless you’ve been avoiding social media, you’ll know that they were finally able to announce one of the shows for 2022. On the 9th of July, Tears for Fears will be a part of the Lytham Festival in Lancashire. See the abbreviated info below.

Tears for Fears w/our beloved Alison Moyet plus Natalie Imbruglia (famous for ‘Torn’) Fast Facts:

  • What: Lytham Festival Tickets https://www.lythamfestival.com/tickets/
  • When: 9 July, 2022
  • Where: Physical location of the Festival: Lytham Green, Lytham St. Anne’s, Lancashire, FY8 5LB
  • Accommodations: hotel suggestion: Hy Hotel on Clifton Street
  • Suggestion: 5 Day Pass so you can see Duran Duran as well or 1 day pass if you can’t stay a week
  • Ticket Price: Approximately $70 USD with fees included (based on the current conversion rate for Sept 2021)
  • Several fans already have tickets to this, so get yours and be ready to meetup and hang out with the fan family. Be ready to get there early, as early as is allowed.

What else are they doing? Promo stuff ::enter all of us with our hands flailing in the air in excitement:: !!! That’s all we can say at the moment because the band hasn’t released official word on what that promo stuff is just yet. But if you checkout certain photos and tweets from hard core fans and Curt, you’ll already know what the promo stuff is. Someone took one look at the visuals and knew immediately. We’re not confirming anything until Tears for Fears does. That’s just how we roll. That’s their business to announce first. Thank you for understanding – we are so excited it’s hard to sleep. xxx Also, Doug seems to have taken a teaching role? Not sure what that means for his part in the band but given we can expect a lot of shows for the summer, he may have that time off from his University.

The New Album

There was confirmed word that the band would not tour again unless the new album was finished and ready for play. The album is complete and management is working on all the things that come with that. We expect that the album will be released between Q4 2021 and Q1 2022. We do expect to hear new music at the 9 July, 2022 show. It’s pretty much guaranteed.

In Related News and Tangents:

Libre Stone: Captain Julian Orzabal (Roland’s younger brother) and Dion Smith released Libre Stone’s 2nd set of work – Mark of Cain. It is now available on their site. They have merch, FB and IG pages to interact with the band and we’re loving it. They did this right. They came correct with great music and all the merch and accompaniments one would want with a band. Be sure to buy your copy, download the album, leave reviews on all platforms where you have purchased the album and continue to interact with the band and fellow fans on social media. We’ll be sharing a list of venues we’d like to see them play in the future. Dion Smith is also sharing some great musical insights. Checkout one of the videos from his series featuring his guitar expertise.

Shout out to our sponsors and April Russell for surprising Bobby B-Blaze with some jackets and cool Libre Stone merch. Bobby is a loyal Tears for Fears Travel Fan who is known for helping fans get to shows. He has often driven cross country and back again ensuring fans get from their front door to the show and home again. He deserves the world and a bag of gold (and some bitcoins).

These comfy Libre Stone collectives arrived at Bobby’s just a few hours ago.

Pascal Orzabal (Roland’s beautiful second son): Pascal has released a total of 4 songs online thus far and you can buy your copy on iTunes, Soundcloud and listen to him on other music platforms including Spotify. Please be sure to like, subscribe and follow his work. It’s really powerful stuff. If you loved The Hurting and Roland in the 1980s, you’ll have a huge appreciation for his son’s ultra-modern sound that has many tones of that era married with all things modern and future forward vibes. We’re going to do a playlist with all their music together. Checkout this video interview.

Diva Smith (Curt’s first angel daughter): Included in that set of music will be Diva Smith’s ‘Bet’ of which we have talked about previously. What an incredible family the band members have!

Wilder Smith (Curt’s second angel daughter) is doing design at college. We’re extremely happy for her. Hoping she opens an agency so we can get a logo commissioned and blessed by her.

Raoul Orzabal (Roland’s beautiful first son) has grown to become an outstanding award-winning artist and we’re obviously buying his work because it’s so good you want to leap into the paintings and live a second life!

The Fan Forum:

Darren and friends including current band members and alumni are actively sharing and posting in the forum. Tamara Hansens’ Tears for Fears Tuesdays (#TFFTuesdays) are still going strong in that space and each Friday members, which include TFF Travel Fans, listen in to Radio Bath which includes the Friday Night Fry Up. During ‘drive time’ and on into the night, DJ Shaun Smith (Curt’s Brother) and DJs from the FNFU interact with fans. It’s a really great way to glide into the weekend and get into a feel good mood. It’s very therapeutic! Be sure to log in weekly to the Fan Forum and set your notifications to receive updates from the Travel Fan site so you can keep up with everything that is going on and make new music friends.

Tasha LaRae’s Gratitude Hour

Singer, songwriter and Arrested Development Alumni (a band Tears for Fears named as the best opening act – and rightly so. We were there and they brought the house down in an incredibly energetic show on 26 August 2010) hosts a gratitude group where everyday friends gather to hear a word from her and a guided gratitude activity each day. Once a week the team have a live hour together to play games, chat and express what’s on their minds. It’s also very therapeutic and super chill! It’s the moment of peace in the week you didn’t know you needed…really helps you reflect and find a place of solace. Currently, the attendees are other musicians, actors and of course Tears for Fears hard core fans all enjoying a moment of absolute peace once a week.

Dave Grohl/Nandi & Mandi

So, those following along closely know that the Dave Grohl is a big Tears for Fears fan. He wanted to do some work with the band and who knows, it may happen. The Foo Fighters, the band Dave leads after the retirement of Nirvana due to tragedy, have a fan named Nandi Bushell who lives in Ipswich. She is an outstanding musician at such a young age and if you haven’t seen her, you need to… Well, a fan in the Tears for Fears Fan Forum where Darren from TFF UK is a moderator led us to Megan who did just as much justice to a young lady quickly nicknamed Mandi as she gave salute to ‘Break It Down Again (BIDA)’ – please enjoy and send her some encouragement on that specific video!

Advice: As we prepare to move into 2022, please be mindful of the following:

  1. You need to get a passport. Even if you do not plan to fly around the globe with other fans or you have no interest in leaving your location, get a passport. The world is very different now and you never know when you may have to up and leave without much notice be it for a great opportunity or some other reason. A passport is under $200 USD. If you’re having trouble getting or paying for a passport, let us know.
  2. Prepare for Covid restrictions. We don’t know when it’s truly going to be over and how long half these restrictions and requirements will be in place. Denmark has dropped their requirements but few other countries have. For those in the states, the vaccine is being pushed and expected along with Covid negative tests. So, if you can’t get the vaccine or don’t feel comfortable getting it, be sure to note where you can get a rapid Covid test or get a take home test so you can obtain proof of a negative status and be able to attend any events coming up without interruption. Nothing we’re doing personally in the fan lane will require a vaccine. You just need a negative Covid test and a mask as that’s the only thing we can ensure will keep people safe. Why not a vaccine mandate? We’ve seen that people can still catch and spread Covid even if vaccinated so a negative test and a mask are expected. The band and venues may have other rules…but these are ours.
  3. Band Changes and Features – They look amazing and perform live even better than they sound on the actual cassettes, CDs and vinyls we listen to…and they may look different from the last time you saw them if you haven’t been following along and spending time with all of us online. We saw that some aren’t comfortable with them not dying their hair dark colours to give an illusion of something superficial and unnatural. Five people had the audacity to show their discriminatory feelings in public on social media. That sentiment is called ageism and discrimination. We have seen those 5 people’s rude actions online and those individuals were named and will be blocked. There is a collective zero-tolerance policy toward any type of discrimination toward the band or fan family.
  4. As always , remember that our fandom is not a competition. We’re all in this to ensure we all get to shows and support the band by being present and wearing their name. Together online, all groups’ goals seemingly should be focused on the promotion of music. If one group announces information before another it is almost impossible to know where one got the information without key identification markers. But if you take a photo from that post or information, be sure to credit the source from which you got it or give a shoutout to those who made it known. Way too many people took photos off of Roland’s wife’s photo page and then said they found them elsewhere. We know that was false.
  5. We’re all one big street team. As for the Tears for Fears Travel Fan team – we don’t claim one sole owner of the team because there isn’t one. Andye is the moderator but we all work together to get information to each other. None of us claim ownership nor note it is as “our group.” We are a team. We tag and join in with the Tears for Fears Fan Forum moderated by Darren and give nods to the teams in France, Japan, The Philippines, Germany and beyond. We think team work first. No one owns this band. We are all faithful volunteers. Cheers to a successful Q4 2021-2022 music extravaganza and fun online and in person!

So, that’s it for the news as we conclude the quarter. More will be coming…just as the band said. Enjoy these photos from Curt in the countryside enjoying a morning run and one from David Wild! Be sure to follow everyone online.
