Tears for Fears Feeling the Love From Fans on the Final Days of Tour 2019

Gwen, Wendy, Darren and Stephen, you all are the MVPs!!

You absolutely ROCK and so do so many of the incredible fans who literally took us along on the tour this year. We enjoyed meeting up with you in person! We loved talking to you on the phone. Conducting this year’s research and fan desires was made easy because of you and what an immaculate tour it was.

At least 3 nights a week we meditated and prayed for the fans, their travel, the band and for peace among us all. Being in a hotel room or suite with others for days on end can be taxing. But when you’re doing it to be with Tears for Fears it feels like the closest thing to heaven! We’re still on cloud nine when we think about the moments documented below. We had a great time on this tour because of your kindness and inclusiveness to all fans who put forth the effort to be present! You provided a service to those who are unable to leave their country and city due to reasons beyond their control with your pictures, resources and video. You made miracles happen by keeping us with you IRL and virtually! Thank you all! We can’t wait to do this again!

Big thanks to all who were patient as we collected everyone’s pictures and stories. We had some hurdles to jump over, people had surgeries, were battling diagnoses and finding a way to push through pain in between shows, hats off to all of you. It’s time we used this pause to do our best to heal and get well. We’re so happy for these moments together and we want many more. Keep in touch throughout the year, this is another beginning of a long life together with Tears for Fears!

Tears for Fears Touching Hearts in Europe (Tour 2019 Part II)

Dedicated to Lael, Valerie and Patricia – long time fans (over 20 years)

Snippet from Lyon

Europe was blessed with some absolutely incredible Tears for Fears shows this year. The reactions, reviews and full on dedication by so many fans to follow suit with more than one show must be acknowledged. Of course people have been going to multiple shows for many years but this time it’s documented, we know who is showing up and being present. It’s not easy to take off that much time from your job and head out on tour. For me, the moderator, that’s part of my contract when I take a role. I want the opportunity to be with my band. I’m not working toward much else so I admire those who make Tears for Fears a priority as so many of us have. What is the benefit? Healing! There’s no other way to put it. It’s HEALING! This band has healing properties in their music, the experience of seeing them live is equal to a miraculous visit from the heavens. Let the photos and videos speak for themselves. Huge thanks to Lael, Valerie and many others who kept in touch throughout the summer to share photos, keep us posted on meetups and truly created an incredible community that Tears for Fears can be proud of 365 days a year.

As shown in the schedule, Tears for Fears visited the following European cities: Luxembourg, Amneville, Bohn, Den Haag, Tilloloy, Rokslide Festival, Zottegem, Herouville-Saint-Clair, Rome, Lucca, Munchen, Bruchsal, Mainz, Nimes, Lyon, Charhaix, and Valencia. Please enjoy highlights from these shows and connect with other fans who shared the material to form tighter bonds. We are ONE TFF Fan Family!

There’s a lot of content here so please take a moment and let it load so you can enjoy it all. Cheers!

Oleta Adams Amazes Atlanta! – SOLD OUT SHOW! (8 July, 2019)

Dedicated to Adam and Lisa – two loyal music fans and friends!

I had the pleasure of working with Adam H, a fellow Tears for Fears Travel Fan, for a short while at an office in Midtown Atlanta. One day he came walking down the hall and settled his arm across my cube with his phone lit up. “Did you see it?!” he asked. “No…,” I said a bit afraid of what I had missed. He handed me his phone and there was the announcement we’d been waiting for…Oleta Adams was finally, officially scheduled at City Winery in Atlanta. I was overwhelmed with emotion. That upcoming weekend I literally went back to the hotel where many of us stayed during Tears for Fears’ May 2019 visit and ordered my tickets(with Adam on the phone)while enjoying the immaculate views of that location. So much good had happened there just a month before as we sat there reading Charlton’s book and catching up with one another as a family of fans. It was SUCH a memorable weekend. Now we’d get to do it again with Oleta Adams?! OMGoodness! She is award winning all on her own but also a beloved alumni of our bespoke band and this was like a gift from the Universe to have this opportunity.

I booked another weekend there, this time arriving on Sunday afternoon and leaving Tuesday morning as she was coming in on the 8th of July. I’d have stayed there and perched from Thursday through Tuesday if I could have. Teresa was driving in, Adam and Lisa and I had seats right next to each other and we were right up against the stage.

About the Venue
City Winery is a very intimate and tight setting as chairs and tables are very close together with little room for aisles. I knew I wouldn’t be getting up too much and would need to rely on the waitress for anything vs. going to the bar by myself. This was a SOLD OUT show so there was not one seat that wasn’t taken. Though living in ATL I hadn’t spent a lot of time at this venue because I wasn’t exactly sure where it was. But now that I know where it is, I want us to have some TFF gatherings here. It’s amazing! We all know Roland loves a great glass of wine and it would be lovely to get the band here for a Platinum Level weekend of fun and maybe invite Oleta Adams to return around the same time. I know we all want it on this side of the fan world. We understand that they do not have a performing relationship as they tour separately but can’t help but long for the day they sing WIC and other amazing hits together again. It’s hard not to want that. So, when Oleta Adams walked out on stage, it was that same rush of emotion that we get when ROCS appear. For better or worse, I immediately started crying. Their music was attached to an era of challenge for me and, much like it has for so many others, accompanied me through those trying times. And here I am on the other side of discomfort, working my way through the world and they are still here with us bringing comfort with their award winning collections. This venue was a perfect setting for absorbing her amazing energy and comforting presence not to mention her immaculate voice.

The Show
Oleta Adams has her own music, her own songs. This was not a Tears for Fears concert and I’m not comparing it to their independent work but you could feel the tunes and hear the familiarity in her piano playing as one would with the band’s. We kept whispering and nudging each other how it was like being with Tears for Fears with Oleta at the lead. She has an amazing band that does great on support. Her husband is on percussion and cajon. She also dances during the sets. She interacts with the audience a lot! I think my bright sparkling Anthony Bourdain pin must have caught her eye because she kept looking in our direction. Maybe it was more than that, an angel in the audience standing over us? We were just so happy and though I cried the whole show, I hope she understood that they were tears of joy. She knew we were coming so had I fainted she probably would have said, “must be one of the TFFers.”

One of the best parts about the show is when she comes closer to the audience and sits near. She and her band go acoustic for a few songs more or less and it turns into this incredible jam session that is energetic and regal. That alone is worth attending. So, imagine you get that and a whole lot more. You know how we love stories and conversations between songs? She provides that as well and they are full, rich accounts and memories that segue into songs. It’s indescribable and if I had the cash, I’d take some holiday time and follow her around as much as we follow Tears for Fears. The energy and vibe she and her band produce is one that is healing, warm and cleansing. I felt renewed after that show, completely renewed.

I won’t list out the whole set list but “Get Here” is on it as is “Circle of One.” It’s very moving. Even typing this has been difficult and has taken a very long time to put into words because it’ll leave you speechless.

After the Show
She changed clothes and then sat behind a nice table and signed every single CD of every person that purchased one. Fans near and far would not stop hugging and kissing on her. I don’t encourage that because she has to travel and if we pass on any unknown colds or anything during a loving smooch then she has to stop her work and rest which affects her wallet and we don’t want that. I didn’t get too close at all. I took pictures only.

Before we left, I thanked her for being so tolerant of our excessive notes, likes, loves and comments on her social media accounts. As promised, I also shared messages from fellow TFFers who wanted to be there but were out of the country with TFF themselves and also some in Brasil. She smiled really big and laughed because it all made sense to her now why we were glued to the stage, our eyes darting back and forth at her every move like loving kittens waiting to be picked up or petted. She stayed longer and took pictures with us and was just truly obliging. I didn’t want the night to end. I didn’t know what to do.
I was on such a happy euphoric cloud nine high that I left my keys in the ignition of my car the next morning. The doors were unlocked and all my things were in it including my computer with all our files. I was just so in a state of disbelief and joy. I couldn’t believe that we met her and that all that happened. Thankfully, my insurance brought a wonderful team out to get my car restarted and I was able to replace the car battery the next day. Angels must have watched over my suitcase, computer and belongings because they were all in place in the middle of the parking lot. I really needed to get myself together emotionally cause my heart and soul had gone on with her on tour. I was just a shell of myself wondering through the day, crying and wishing this was 365 like it used to be. May the Universe grant us the ability to follow TFF and the alumni for a constant state of joy and bliss! We Love You, Oleta!!!!

Thanks for reading!

*Dedicated to Gwen, Darren, Wendy, Tamara, Bobo and the amazing fans who did everything they could to be present at each UK show! Also a big shoutout to those who joined in online to celebrate Curt’s birthday!

Carris Birthday Card
Thanks Carri for creating the 2019 card.

The past 6 days have been filled with celebration as Tears for Fears’ fans in the UK and those who flew in from the Americas came together to enjoy shows at pristine, immaculate venues. People who’d never met before shared accommodations and cars to make sure they arrived present and accounted for visible to the band. Tamara even got a shout out from Good Man Curt after flying in from Minnesota. Poor baby, despite losing her dog to illness, she’s been literally flying around the world supporting them. She finds the shows very healing and comforting to say the least. This was her 5th or sixth show this year in 3 different countries. Gwen and Wendy are breaking records as well by going to 16 shows and Darren got the guys together for group hugs and hanging out. Members of the band joined in as you can see in the photo. Big thanks to Reverend Charlton Pettus, Ms. Carina Round and Drummer Genius Jamie Wollam for taking a moment out of your packed schedules for some fan hellos and handshakes. We live for this!

*It should be noted that Curt Smith came down with a TERRIBLE cold that he referred to as just a flesh wound. He sacrificed his health so he could perform for everyone. We owe him! He enjoyed a lovely birthday with his family on the 24th and we were happy to celebrate it virtually as a group.

For several fans this set of shows meant the world. Another hug fest broke out and people were loving on each other, their eyes filled with tears of joy – the band does that to people you know. They evoke emotions that are so strong and powerful, it’s difficult to write these synopsis and keep a dry eye. Tamara sums it up well.

Words from Tamara:
It’s been a short, eventful, educational, entertaining, emotional, healing and unforgettable experience! I am forever grateful and thankful to have had this opportunity to come over on such short notice. It was a pleasure to meet so many of you I see online often and put a face with a name. Also so wonderful to spend the past few days with two fabulous fans who take this stuff seriously! I have no idea how I am going to function on the little sleep with all the traveling and running around from city to city, standing in lines for hours and doing it all over again. I managed for 3 shows in a row. My travel mates are going to 16 of these and have already been to 13 so far. Wow! That’s dedication! We shared a lot of laughs and other shenanigans. Those I probably best not mention 😂 I will never forget the kindness by so many like I’ve known you forever. Many of us already share one commonality with our love and appreciation of Tears For Fears music, but I find with every person I meet and talk to, I have a deeper connection with them on some other level which just validates another sign that I was meant to come here. There were many signs on this trip for me. Some of you may or may not believe in that sort of thing. I was moved to the words of Woman in Chains as I expected I would be. This trip was booked only a week before I had to make the decision about my BoBo. So again thank you Gwen, Wendy, Curt, Roland, Jamie, Charlton, Doug, Carina, Bill, Gooch, Andy and crew and Andye. Also my work for giving me the time off short notice and my husband for understanding why I needed to go. And so nice to meet all of you at the shows and I’m sorry if I leave anyone out as I’m a bit teary eyed being Ms Sensitive Pants that I am 😳Darren, Paula, Dion, Paula’s mom, Liz from New Zealand, Martin, Martin’s lady friend and all of the others. Someday I hope to come back to visit again. Until next time…#bunnylousadventures #tearsforfearssummertour2019 #tearsforfears #tffff@bunnylous_adventures @tfftravelfans

Libre Stone & Feeling ALL the Music

Captain Julian Orzabal and Dion Smith recently released a new album under their band Libre Stone. It is available on iTunes and makes an excellent road trip companion as you head out to see Julian’s brother and music comrades, Tears For Fears in the UK this summer. Julian has collaborated with musicians in the past including Tears for Fears, DelaQ and with Alisa McCathern to name a few as mentioned on the Members section of this archive. He’s got some great work and it has a style of its own that is captivating and hits the spot. You’ll really like it so be sure to get your copy while it’s available.

Being swept up in this circle of audio artistry and musicians is actually quite relaxing and euphoric. The emotions their music bring forth are spiritual in nature meaning it feels rather divine and rooted deep in the universal bond we as humans have with rhythm. Whether you feel you can dance or not, we all move to music in our own way. Tears for Fears have certainly pulled on our emotions, often from a place we didn’t know existed. When you listen to tracks from Captain Orzabal under DelaQ such as Butterfly and 20th Century, which are top picks, one can easily be swept away. Like a good meal, you want to hush up and enjoy it. It’s the kind of music that fills the void of silence in just the right way as you travel or contemplate. It’s a piece of fabric that is woven into a moment in your life. When you listen to it you don’t forget where you were or what was going on in your life. It becomes part of your life’s soundtrack.

TFF Soldiers
Mr. Wenner’s pristine TFF collection includes this rare find – EWTRTW soldiers…

Fans’ dedication is shown in so many ways. For example, there are several who keep immaculate collections of their work, the concert t-shirts and guitar picks thrown into the crowd. Some have been lucky enough to get more than one set of drumsticks from Jamie Wollam and have shrined those as well. Just look at those well kept, next to new soldiers that were part of the EWTRTW collection. As soldiers of sound, we certainly find this to be a thing of beauty! Nice job Mr. Wenner!

Again, the way Tears for Fears’ music has become vastly memorable and important to pop culture, the Orzabal and Smith families’ work has created a sort of virtual island for many fans to live on daily. A great example is a newly formed Facebook group called Tears Roll Down (administered by Darren Hull). After being a part of another of the 56 TFF dedicated groups on Facebook, Darren wanted a space where superficial details were not the focus. Instead, it’s about the collection of the band’s music as well as gathering with others at concerts. But most important, it’s to celebrate the legacy of the work and the various tracks.
While sharing photos of his recent concert attendance at Hampton Court where Tears for Fears played back to back on the 18th and 19th of June, Darren mentioned the reaction of a guy three times his size and how overcome with emotion he was at the show. He states,

“Last nite was the nuts 4 rows from stage. TFF on fire Best crowd reaction/atmosphere I’ve been in. The guy crying next to me, a lady in front kept turning round and fist bumping me while we sang. A couple behind me dancing away like crazy Amazing it was.”

He also noted that the man bear hugged him after the show and then went his merry way. It should be noted that this happens A LOT at shows. The band brings out some of the most comforting, soothing and, again, euphoric energy. It’s very lifting. People who did not know each other before, soon know each other VERY well. For example, in 2015, at Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey, a man turned around and smooched Andye, the TFF Travel Fan Moderator. They’d never met before and he was vaguely familiar with the work of the travelling crew.

“We were all drenched with sweat from head to toe and as if it were Woodstock. He had been taking amazing photos all night. At one point we were all intertwined on that front row, as if we’d all just shared an UBER ride to the show. When the concert ended no one left. Instead, people just starting turning toward their neighbour hugging and smooching. It was like someone had sprinkled brotherly love dust over the venue. I’ll never forget that night. It was surreal. You usually only see people that interlocked at airports when a loved one is about to move away.”

This isn’t the first time, it continued in 2017 in Tulsa Oklahoma after the show among the fans. Tears for Fears and those musicians that are a part of the sphere bring out a sense of humanity, brotherhood and humbleness that is indescribable.

The dedicated love the band and respect their families. Their level of respect and love goes as far as being willing to sacrifice a moment to say hello if the band members are spotted heading back to their hotels or on their way out. Julian, DelaQ, Alisa and others that are present in the TFF Universe, are a bit more accessible and one can pour their feelings into their appreciation of them via Facebook wall posts, Twitter feeds and Instagram. But we still want to keep our wits about us. One fan from Boston noted that she’s often just looked the other way because she knows they need their privacy. “After the show I went back to my hotel and I just happened to be on the same elevator as one of the band members. I politely smiled and then got off on the wrong floor because I didn’t want them to think I was going to share their location. I’m very aware of that type of behaviour and I didn’t want them to live with that fear.” She also noted that she’s seen them before at their hotels on countless trips to enjoy and support their music but she goes the other way because she just doesn’t want them to feel like they have to keep performing even after they get off stage. “They’re musicians, they need their rest more than most. That’s an hour and a half show. That’s a lot to give. Once it’s done, they’re done. That’s all we should respectfully expect.”
We hear that! That’s all we should respectfully expect.

“It is tough when you’ve flown over one or two continents and you REALLY want to tell them what an impact they have made on us. Or perhaps they finally came to your town after you waited to see them for 20 years…however, we have to learn to enjoy the energy they have at that moment and call it. It is one of the hardest things we have to be brave enough and self-controlled enough to do/be as fans. It’s excruciating really.” -ANM

All emotions and expressions of admiration within the space of those shows or online when conversing with members of Libre Stone, TFF and those residing in this sphere are valid, understood, shared and expected. Many talk about how much they cry at the shows or while listening to the band’s music. They don’t know where this emotion is coming from but it is such a release. You literally let it all out. All your woes drain you and you are on cloud 9 for quite a while. Coming down from that can be as painful as sugar, coffee and stimulant withdrawal. In some cases, it is essential to seek medical attention just to get through it. That’s how intense the shows are in addition to new albums or events where they are present. It’s a miracle we can even hold it together.

Thanks for reading!

Having A Blast with Tears for Fears at Hampton Court Palace

**Dedicated to Tamara, Gwen, Wendy, The Coopers and Shaun Smith.

The first two shows of the Tears for Fears Rule the World tour part II – sizzling summer edition left fans quite satisfied, to say the least. More like…THRILLED TO BITS! Roland brought back the Flying Wombat and family members in the UK, like Curt’s brother Shaun, were also in the audience. The venue is quite fitting for our Rock Royalty. It was an impeccable two days. Big thanks to Gwen, Wendy, Darren, Simon and many others who shared their entire experience from start to finish.

One of the highlights of the fan experience were fans, Gwen and Wendy’s, cool AirBNB that was right next to the venue. They were able to hear soundcheck loud and clear. Little Lulu was dancing along and is carrying the torch for Toddlers for Tears for Fears – and there are many. For the Millennials of the group (Gen Y) do you remember when that was us?!!

Little Lulu – Toddlers for TFF team lead

Roland’s jokes were fantastic and funny! It was great to see him in such great form. Curt was kind to pause for some pictures with fans and kept us on his own stroll as he arrived with daughter, Lady Diva last week. Enjoy all the highlights and moments from this magical show. Connect with fellow fans and be good to each other. This is a fan family motto! We’re soldiers of sound, loving Tears for Fears as we sally forth through this life.

Tears for Fears Supershow in Mexico

We’re SUPER happy that the TFF Mexico fan team got to enjoy some time in the presence of the band. Big congrats to all who where there and to the band on having an awesome show! Here are a few shares from the venue itself and a bit of video. Note the power in the voices of our dear fellow fans en Mexico. There are people (men and women) noting how much they love Tears for Fears. People know all the words, they are very animated and present…this was indeed a gift to the concert goers and to the band themselves. What a gorgeous cyclical showing of love and affection…it’s hard not to cry. Enjoy!

We truly hope other producers in the area will continue to book and schedule the band at amazing venues there.

Thanks for reading, watching and connecting!
