Tears for Fears Denver, CO 2017

When Ro smiles at me

Several people made long hauls across the country to go to this show specifically because the venue is just so awesome! Though dedicated strictly to Carrie on Twitter, we appreciate everyone that wrote in and road tripped literally to be there. Some left us photos in our FB inbox. Please send them to our email papasfans at gmail so we can feature you respectfully in this blog with all credit to you and your work. 🙂 FB doesn’t permit photo downloads from the FB inbox.

Big thanks to Carrie for keeping in touch throughout her way to the show!

Shoutout to all the families who make Tears for Fears a family affair!

Again, this venue is awesome. For the few videos we do have from public shares, you’ll hear how well the band sounds…just angelic! Have a listen.

Tears for Fears in Tucson #TFF2017

This show didn’t go as planned for a few fans. Lael will have the full report. There were rumours of people sneaking in and seat hopping in the VIP section. Somehow one fan lost her seat. Not sure how that happened and we’re awaiting the details. But the biggest culprit was the rain…monsoon rain, their words, not ours. Really sad to hear that some fans decided to leave due to the poor weather conditions. It was one of those kind of nights…BUT THE SHOW WAS GOOD!

Kudos to Lael and any others that worked really hard to get tickets for as many as possible for this show. There were lots of tickets still available a week before the concert so hopefully all who wanted to be there did get tickets despite the reported half-hour delay due to the lightning and terrible weather.

For those that had to leave early and miss Tears entirely…let’s have that conversation and work on getting you a better deal in the future and perhaps at a different venue. Outdoor shows in the summer are just scary and unpredictable (and part of the reason MANY on our team sat this one out – we knew it was too risky).
But the band marched on! The reports coming in say the band did great and trudged through, Roland joked about Wellingtons and they did that show with no complaints. Here’s a bit of video and some photos.

Gorgeous, Vivian!

*Vivian is the fan that brought everyone this bit of fun on the social walls

We’ll update this once we get the full story on what happened…
Thanks to Lael, the assistants for those that made special journeys to fulfill dreams of seeing the band and so many more! Very sorry about the rain and the tough conditions. Let’s do over!

Good Times in Glendale, Arizona! TFF 2017

Tears For Fears Travel Fan Blog Write – Up: Glendale (Phoenix) – Gila River Arena by Lael, TFF Travel Fan Team

Kenya and I arrived just on time, as the gridlock in Phoenix rush hour traffic was much worse than I thought it would be, especially considering we had use of the carpool lane. Opening act Allen Stone started earlier than 7:00 pm, and Tears For Fears took the stage at 7:15 pm. We made it to our seats on the floor just as TFF were taking the stage!! They sounded wonderful, and kept the volume at a nice level, considering the size of this arena.

Jamie Wollam was hitting on all cylinders, and his style of drumming just seems to suit larger venues. Actually, I feel that arenas bring out the optimum performance in TFF as well, due to the sing – along anthem style of their biggest hits. Other hits like “ELAHE” also shimmered in this setting.

I ended up dancing and singing, and remained standing during all of TFF’s set, even though in parts it felt kind of strange, almost a little inappropriate, as most of the audience was sitting down in the middle of their set. I loved the lighting effects that TFF had in place for “Change”, as these effects brought the song’s clean sound and pointed message to life.

The highlight of their concert was Kenya receiving a shout – out from Curt Smith, on the intro to “Shout”. I will never forget the look on Kenya’s face when she realized he had said her name! It took both of us a couple moments to realize it, as Curt Smith said her name in his adorable British accent, and she just did not believe it at first. I then turned to her, “Yeah, he said your name…”

Here are some of the amazing songs featured in Phoenix show, posted by fellow fans that were present. Be sure to like their YT channels and connect!

Tears for Fears Touching the Hearts of Tel Aviv 2017

The phone rang, people emailed, the media reached out… “Are you going to Tel Aviv? Can we speak with you?” Everyone was excited about this show! It was one of the first to be officially announced this year on the grapevine so to speak.

*It’s crazy how much this sounds like the actual cassette tape from back in the day. It’s insane really how one can maintain that quality! In most cases, we’ve found they sound even better and they alreadyyyyy were powerful and outstanding… THIS! THIS is why we break our necks and the bank to get to every show. There’s a lot of good energy that just flows like a river at these concerts. You gotta be there to see and feel it!

*Dear person that sang that with such feeling and emotion (do you hear them? soooo sweet! – And Roland’s nice suave ending! Goodness, get the tissues!)

You can’t miss Ms. Sylvia’s cakes! Every year she outdoes herself with a fine creation that captures the band in detail. Here’s Curt’s 2017 cake! We bet it has crunch toffee inside! Yum to the NTH degree!

And his family of angels showed up!!!

Hope everyone had a blast!

Shoutout to Darby who finally made it to a show after years of almost making it to one. She also had tickets for Canada as well…offered to give them away to fellow fans. What a gem of a friend! Read her story below!

“Bought tickets for a concert at the Capital Theatre in NY last last year (but couldn’t go last minute.. THEN bought tickets at New Market (UK) as I have loads of friends there and was visiting… but again , had to reschedule my trip and gave my premier enclosure tickets away to another fan… THEN bought VIP tickets for the Boston show AND the Montreal tickets (our family has a summer home about two hours away and thought that might work as well).. in the end I can only make the Boston concert.”

Glad she made it!!

Love It When Tears for Fears Come to Canada!

Tears for Fears in Canada… dedicated to Michel-Ange, his mother and Penny!

From Andye

Forgive me guys, I was supposed to be at this show. I want to thank all the cool people that reached out beforehand and made their way to Toronto, Quebec and Montreal! I love Canada…particularly Toronto. I’ll never forget when I moved there briefly (was returned to the states kicking and screaming – I DID NOT want to leave and often wonder if I had only stood my ground and just stayed what would have become of me). While there, I was looking out the window near Ryerson Theatre and the band The Bad Plus came on the radio. I had no idea that their jazz version of Everybody Wants to Rule the World wasn’t actually Tears for Fears themselves doing something fancy. When they said that “they’ll be performing later that month” I thought they meant TFF. I literally wanted to change my plane ticket and just stay longer eventhough I knew I had to leave the country on x date. Fast forward almost 10years later, I’m writing this practically crying cause I love my Canadian friends so much that I’ve literally tried to get a few to move here. So far, we’ve had a handful…all Tears for Fears fans!!

Here’s a great note from Michel-Ange who was at the show last night. G-d bless him!

This is a message for Tears For Fears !!
HI Tears For Fears !!
On this thursday, i wish you a huge welcome to Montréal from one of your biggest fan !!
I’m Michel-Ange Rodriguez from Montréal, student and artist ! I’m waiting your awesome show in Place Des Arts, my sit is on third row (GROUND FLOOR CC 7) !
I have been a big fan since my teenage years. The first single i heard on a radio is “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”. This first single who have made me stronger as an individual !
It’s a big honor and pleasure to draw the hyper realistic portrait of the album “Song From The Big Chair” that I did.
To draw people’s portrait is a talent of mine. Without been shy, i’ll show you this big portrait after the show ! My big dream is to meet you and take a photo with you both after the show, if it’s possible !
If you want, i would like to show you the portrait that reflect my passion for drawing 🙂 !
Thank you very much Tears For Fears to have taken the time to read my message !
Will be a pleasure to meet in Montréal thursday !

Making New Memories in New Jersey with Tears for Fears

We had a great show in New Jersey back in 2014 in Red Bank. For that reason I have a great memory of that state, not to mention the incredible dinner that followed and all the great people we met. So many amazing loyalist from New York came down to visit as well. Our core team wasn’t able to make that trek across country this year but plenty of additional dedicated fans did! Check out these great videos and pictures! Big shoutout to Deb Charlesworth who captured some cool pictures to add to her collection. She shared these three with us!

It was packed in the Prudential Center!! Yes!!! Shout out to Pepe Cuh!!! Nice captures!

Many of us are still in a state of Euphoria…
Wow…please give me a minute. This show…was just…it felt good. From the hotel to the seats and fellow fans…it felt GOOD! I’d say great…but GOOD in all caps is what works here with the intonation of “MEGA INSANELY GROOOOVY smothered in euphoric bliss.” I’ve had euphoric experiences in the presence of this band since 2010 but this one took the cake! My friends and fellow travel fans felt the same! People spent quality time that night and the next morning discussing how outstanding that show was! It was more than a water cooler moment…it was lunch and dinner as well! Here’s a few snippets from conversation!

“I felt like I was 20 again! They sound just as good as 1985 when I first saw them live!” – Adam H.

“It was like I was in my parents car again hearing them from the first time! They sound just as good!” – Tyler

“From a technical perspective it was excellent…from the lights to the sound…it was great! I’m going to more shows this summer and will be comparing them all to Tears for Fears.’” L. L.

“They Sound Amazing!!!!!” M.W. texting us during the show 🙂

Where is Duluth, GA? Is that near Atlanta? Yes, it’s sort of the same…

I arrived a day in advance, skipping Florida because I was fearful I’d be worn out in the summer’s heat and humidity trying to truck it on time Sunday morning. So, I got there on Saturday after a lavish French tea party (you all know I’m all about a good tea social) for a fellow fan who recently graduated from one of the many Universities in Atlanta. Speaking of Atlanta… the make-up of this city is very different. One might live in Duluth…but you still call it Atlanta. It’s all connected. Duluth is a neighbourhood that touches Atlanta…but I still call it Atlanta. Many people do. In the last few years it has come into its own and has beautiful restaurants, venues and residential areas. Not to mention it is in Gwinnett County which is filled with culture no matter what view one might get of it otherwise. It’s 30 miles up the road from Atlanta city center and it is spectacular when it comes to events (and the parking is usually free). So, everyone was right and Curt said it best when calling it Duluth and noting that people drove in from Atlanta. It’s also noted that it has one of the highest numbers of Japanese speakers/Japanese-Americans in the southeast and hosts Japan Fest annually! 🙂 It is one of my favourite places to visit in the state! So green and serene with lots to do!

Who was there?
When I moved to Atlanta roughly 12 years or so ago, I noticed they played 80s music everywhere. They didn’t play the band’s new stuff, but older cuts and sometimes deep cuts of various albums from Duran Duran, TFF and the like. I’d often hear conversations when the music was played at a grocery store or hair salon…people talking about how much they loved that band. Of course, anytime they said they loved Tears for Fears I had to go on fan duty and tell them all about the online activities and opportunities to still see the band because, “they tour!!” This led to making new friends and keeping people informed via social media re: band things they may miss or what have you. So when all   of these people, new and veteran fans, showed up at the concert I was floored!

I arrived at 6pm on the dot and the awesome Michael Magno, who is a local superstar and tours with various musicians in addition to a great solo career, showed up with his stellar wife Meg, I almost fainted! I was thrilled that they took me up on the invitation! Not just Michael but many of my media colleagues and industry pals from around the city showed up. COOs, VPs and heads of various companies were present and had floor seats. They weren’t trying to just “attend” the show…they meant business! They were there to celebrate the band! So, big hugs and shoutouts to those who took time away to be true fan on a Sunday night (that’s a big deal around here because Monday mornings/the work week in ATL/Duluth, etc is no joke – it starts at 5am and you need all the sleep and rest you can get on a Sunday to get through it).

The Travel Fans
As mentioned many times, a travel fan is one who travels to shows. That’s it. It’s a nickname. On the front row, there were many! On the second row were several others who were local and drove in from various counties up to Duluth. Third row was filled with fans in their own cool TFF designs. It was awesome and the venue looked full!

I was a bit worried for us because everyone knows we stand up and dance for every show. Why not, why wouldn’t we? Would the Hall and Oates fans understand? I turned around and shook hands with several people as they touched my shoulder to ask questions about various things. Some knew that I was the blog moderator and I wanted to make sure to thank them for following along as well as make new friends. I let them know up front that I’d be on my feet the whole time but would leave for H&O as to not carry on throughout the concert. I leave more for courtesy purposes as I’ve come to see that some H&O fans just prefer to stay seated. I’ve heard this from other fans as well. I can’t go for that. 😉 I have to get up and groove. So, hey, let them enjoy the show without me wiggling around to every single song. I also left because…Monday morning. I’ve met H&O before through work functions so I don’t feel deprived of the experience for the most part. Most of my other friends and media colleagues stayed for a bit of time after TFF. They text and tweeted afterwards…they ADORED TFF… Hall and Oats received mixed reviews from those I know.

Back on the Road… Pause for me…

After the show, many went up to get merch. I felt faint, so I went to sit down. The familiar and strangers came over to compliment my skull dress. That was very sweet.

IMG_2194

Made a lot of new friends and saw a lot of unity that night. The suburbs of ATL really showed up that night hand in hand and all in love with the band and each other. Lots of “Loving” couples representing our great ethnicities and cultures. It was awesome!

Adam danced his way into the 1000s on his fit bit! We all had a good time!

Curt practically called us Peach Cobbler! Now that’s a compliment cause that’s like the official state food down here! I’m all about this Narwhal’s nightie. Can I get that in extra large?

I could say a lot more but I’ll pause here… we won’t forget that night. I, and many others, pray that ATL/Duluth stays on the TFF tour plan for decades! Just keep coming back Roland, Curt and Team! We welcome you here with open hearts!

Meg and Tyler said it all!!!

The band went quickly to Pittsburgh for the Paints Arena show the next morning. It was like waking up from the best all night slumber party and realising the guests of honour were gone! Come back! Come baaaaaccckkk!

We didn’t know a lot of people in Pittsburgh so our stock of contributions is rather low. If you have friends that went to this show let us know. Would love to recognise them and send some shoutouts and thank yous. So many fans got great photos and videos. Be sure to follow these great YT contributors and make new friends!
